I began working with you in August 2014.  I came to your bootcamp class.  You gave me the support that I needed, and by October 2014, I won your challenge along with my 9 year old daughter.  I  followed the plan for  eating ( with some special help all the way from Iowa) 😊. I hired you to personal train me in Dec, Jan and March.  You were my personal trainer and my therapist, you listened, you gave advice , heck you even feed me after training. Man I love you. When I started with you I was 213lbs as of right now I’m 182 lbs ( still working on it daily). My personal life was all over the place ( negative). But I have since turned the negatives into positives.  I have never been in a room with women from all walks of life, different ages and different nationalities where the energy is  positive and no one is judging you about your size. I can here you now “ You do you”. My daughter came to class and you welcomed her like she was your own.  The love that I have for you is unconditional, no matter where life takes you, I will be there to support you and cheer you on. I’m proud to call you My Coach!

My Journey with Fitness as a Diabetic...

January 2012 began my journey to wanting a healthy lifestyle. I'm maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle since finding out I was diabetic in March of 2012.  I'm managing my Type 2 diabetes with eating and exercising on a regular basis. I am a single woman who is totally committed to get back into shape. I started working out in April 2012,  with a Fitness Coach, Angela Winston.  I asked what would we be doing, she didn’t say.  She just said, “just come and do what you can do”.  I wasn’t sure I’d make it through the workout.  But my goal was to finish the workout and I did.  When first diagnosed with diabetes, my A1C was 7.6--March 2012. Not only did I bring my A1C down to 6.2--which is great, I've lost 30 pounds since March 2012 and today is July 4, 2012. Now June 23, 2015; I visited my doctor for my yearly physical. My A1C is 5.6 and I have maintained my weight and kept off the 50 pounds I had lost.  My Beachbody Fitness Coach, Angela Winston Hebert is so encouraging, but will challenge you with intense workouts. My family now contacts me for food and fitness questions. That inspires me to keep moving forward.  My journey isn’t over, but working out each day and watching what I eat is now the destination.

Journey to Wellness -

I Ain’t No Punk – My Story

My decision to get healthy was born out of one of the darkest times in my life. We lost our 31 year old to suicide last year. I started a very unhealthy spiral into eating badly and not exercising at all. This was a very bad decision for me as I have Osteoarthritis and live in constant pain. The funny thing about arthritis is that exercise hurts but it’s the one of the things that helps. I had a hip replacement several years ago and I want to save my hip that has not been replaced.  However when you are depressed you don’t want to exercise, chips, sweets and fast foods becomes your comfort. Through prayer I came to realize that I needed to make a change. I understood that I have very little control over my circumstances but I have complete control over my response to them. I realized that, at almost 60 the quality of life becomes extremely important. I decide that it was up to me to do something about it. I chose to live the 4th quarter of my life to the best of my ability.  A dear friend of mine, P.H. was always telling me about her trainer and that I should call her. I never did. Then one day I asked the Lord to give me the strength to make a change. I called Angela and started to work with her. It was rocky at first because we couldn’t get our schedules in sync and I wasn’t that committed. I also felt my goals were too simplistic for her. All I wanted to do was be able to walk up and down my stairs without getting winded and get up off the floor. I felt I was too old to reach for the stars.  But Angela being who she is met me right where I was. She encouraged me to do what I could. She sneaky because without telling me she increased my reps and the weight I was lifting because she knew I could do better. I began to feel exhilarated. My motto became “I ain’t no punk”.  I may not be able to do some things but I will dang sure try.

I went to my first Saturday weight class this past Saturday. I can’t do a lot of the exercises especially the floor stuff. I am surrounded by beautiful young women that could be my daughters, or even granddaughters, working it out. Although I am probably the senior of the group “I ain’t no punk.” I will continue to come and do me. October 4th I will be 60, sculpted & sexy.

My inspirational scripture for this journey is:  from Proverbs 3: 5
